Princess Donna was already an experienced bondage model as both a top and a bottom when she applied to run Wired Pussy for Kink.com, taking the site over from then-webmistress Chanta Rose in 2004. We caught up with Princess Donna at Kink.com's new offices in San Francisco's Armory for a chat about pleasure and pain.
Princess Donna: Not for Kink.com; I went to NYU, so I was stationed in New York. And I worked for a company out there while I was in college; they taught me how to tie rope; I subbed for them for about a year and a half and then I started doing domme work for them. And then when I graduated I applied for the job as webmaster of wired pussy; I saw it on the internet. They flew me out two weeks after I graduated, and I got the job. Eros Zine: Many of the sites on Kink are boy-girl, but Wired Pussy sticks pretty much to the girl-girl formula, correct? Princess Donna: Occasionally I do shoots that have men in them, but the members so far have seemed to want it to stay a girl-girl site. I do some things where I change that. I just did an audience shoot; there were people in the audience, and the guys in the audience could interact with the model.
Princess Donna: No, on site. They were invited to a happy hour, so there were like thirty people in a room, surrounding the scene that we were doing, and I sent the model out into the audience to give handjobs and stuff like that. We did a scene in New York where I filled a bar with extras and then I had her give a blowjob to an unknown guy in the bar. So I occasionally include some boy-girl sex. Eros Zine: How do you find your occasional guest tops for Wired Pussy? Princess Donna: I generally use models who have subbed for Wired Pussy before; I cast the girls who seem interested in the electricity. I do have guest tops, but I don't use guest directors that often. I still direct the scenes, usually. Eros Zine: So in other words, you would have a female model who would be a bottom for a scene or a number of scenes, and then you would give them a chance to top -- that's sort of like the model in the gay community in the '70s, where you would have to be a bottom before you could be a top. Is that intentional? Princess Donna: I think it helps. Especially with the electricity I think it's good to have an idea of what it feels like before you start using it on somebody else. And generally I think that people who have been submissive make better tops -- it's not always true, but usually.
Princess Donna: I think electricity play can mean a lot of different things. There is an entire community of people who are interested in pleasurable electrostim. That mostly involves internal electrical stimulation with electrical dildos -- the violet wand gets mixed in there sometimes -- and cock-and-ball toys that have electricity and can induce ejaculation in males without anything but the electricity. And I still definitely use pleasurable electrostim, but I have also introduced the more BDSM-oriented aspect of electrical play. I think electricity is a very psychological thing for most people; most people are familiar with what it's like to get slapped or to bump into things, so they're familiar with corporal pain, or at least the idea of it. But when you introduce electricity, it's automatically something that you're not supposed to feel. You learn from an early age don't stick your hands in the socket; you lick a battery you get scared. So I think it's definitely edge play for a lot of people. So it has more to do with the anticipation and being afraid of electricity than it actually has to do with the pain.
Eros Zine: When you look at "unpleasurable" electrostim, what does that look like? Princess Donna: [laughs] Well, I call it BDSM electrostim, because I still think it's pleasurable [laughs]. That would involve more things like the cattle prod. You can also use the same kind of toys that they use in pleasurable electrostim; you just use them in a different way. If you turn them up higher than the pleasurable level, it's a good tool for domination. So BDSM electrostim would include the cattle prod, electric nipple clamps, electric pussy clamps, TENS units with sticky pads. Generally I find that electrical stimulation on the outside of the body is a little bit sharper and more painful for most people. So… internal toys are generally more pleasurable than external stimulation. Eros Zine: Do you find models who are going to bottom for Wired Pussy generally need experience doing electrical play -- or for that matter BDSM? Princess Donna: Not all the models do. We book a lot through talent agents in LA, so a lot of the girls come to us never having tried kinky stuff before. But they're open to it. We talk to them about what we're going to do beforehand. I get a lot of girls who have never tried electrical stimulation until they come to this site, and a lot of girls who've never been tied up before they come to Kink.com. But then if they enjoy it, then I'll bring them back several times, so they get familiar with electrical play.
Princess Donna: We build stuff from scratch and we use off-the-shelf models. A lot of the stuff that we build uses ideas from the stuff that you can get off the shelf. We build a lot of predicament devices. We have these heels where you have to keep your feet up and if you let it down you shock yourself in the pussy. Or we have these predicament devices where you're on a steel dildo so you can't really move around, and then you have to lean back 'cause there's clamps attached to your nipples, and if you lean forward it'll complete the switch and shock you. We make a lot of stuff like that. We don't often make electrical dildos; we can electrify any metal dildos with the TENS units that are out there. Eros Zine: Do you primarily use battery-powered devices or stuff you plug in? Princess Donna: Mostly battery-powered. Eros Zine: What precautions do you take to make sure the electrical play you do is safe? Princess Donna: On Wired Pussy, we don't use any electricity flowing from one side of the chest to the other. If we use electricity above the waist, we do it from one side of the nipple to the other, and not across the heart. Eros Zine: And the reason is because if you go across the heart, you can theoretically cause a cardiac arrest. Princess Donna: Yes, you could theoretically cause a problem, especially for someone who had a weak heart or some sort of heart problem. So it's safest just to keep it wired across the nipple and not across the chest.
Princess Donna: I would say to go online, to a store that sells electrical equipment, and find a dildo -- you can even probably go to your chiropractor or physical therapist and inquire about TENS units; that was the first time I ever tried sticky pads. My Mom had them to rehabilitate her neck after an injury, and I would always stick them on and go "Aaaahhhh!!! It's weird!!!!" [laughs] Eros Zine: What's coming up for Wired Pussy? Princess Donna: I'm definitely getting more into this idea of public humiliation. And then the audience shoot was really fun, so I'm hoping to do more public humiliation stuff on the site. And the members seem to really respond well to that.
