Florida Featured Event

In South Florida, the Alter Ego fetish party only happens once a month. For many, their personal calendar revolves around Alter Ego and the 2nd Saturday of every month. Many partygoers plan out their naughty outfits and schedule their lives accordingly to never miss this world-famous kinky event. The question is what to do with all those other weekends of the month? After all, three out of four precious Saturdays are non-Alter Ego.

There once was a time (circa 1999 or 2000) when you could count on Fetish Factory's classic home venue Manray to serve up a weekly alternative dance night for all of the fetish people where they might even bring along their extended vanilla friends group to test out the waters. Manray hosted a popular weekly event that did its three-week every-Saturday dance around the once-a-month fetish party and regularly packed the house with party people looking for something markedly different than the mundanity of the usual downtown Ft. Lauderdale meat-market nightlife and the who's-got-the-fattest-wallet South Beach Miami club scene.

The fetish party eventually upgraded venues and moved to The Saint. It wasn't long before the popular alternative club night followed suit and moved to the new house as well. The Saint was home-sweet-home to both the fetish party and the alternative night with a very successful run throughout 2000 and into 2001. When FF left The Saint in mid-2001, the popular alternative night simply closed its doors. Various and sundry goth and industrial nights have come and gone since that time long ago but the scene has become fragmented. Nothing has really served as the sort of anchor drawing together the scene the way those The Saint and Manray alt-nights did.

Now in 2008, South Florida has next to zero to offer for alternative club nights outside of the monthly fetish party. This is a major shift from the old days and has been a hot topic among alternative locals, but they all agree on one thing: South Florida needs an alternative club night! The mainstream clubs are now completely saturated with house and hip-hop and for us alt-clubbers, that just ain't gonna cut it!

Fetish Factory and its friends offer the long-awaited solution to this nagging club blues: a resurgence of South Florida alternative clubbing, the aptly titled "Saint Saturday" to be held at Purgatory Nightclub in Fort Lauderdale. Our current home venue Purgatory is actually the same venue as a classic: The Saint -- only with a new name, better lights, better sound, and an overall better use of space. If you haven't been to Purgatory since The Saint days, you have to get down here to check it out.

Saint Saturday is angled as a throwback to the good old days when every Saturday was a party -- a long-gone time when no one ever sat at home with nothing to do. While Saint Saturday is only once a month at this point, we are hoping to expand this club night to a popular weekly event all in good time.

The first night was held on January 26th, 2008, and future events will be held on the 4th Saturday of every month at Purgatory. Come out to support the premiere of our monthly event so that we will be invited back in the future!

Saint Saturday features the finest in alternative dance, old school, 80s new wave, goth, industrial, darkwave and more. The night will be DJ'd by Godfather (Alter Ego), 16-Bit (Kitchen Club) and Sin (The Gathering). Dance the night away to all your favorite alternative hits all night long!

When "Saint Saturday" DJs speak about alternative music, they aren't talking about Pearl Jam. The premiere event flyer features a veritable collage of music moguls popular in the alternative club scene promising that you will know every great song by every great artist such as Peter Murphy, The Cure, Morrissey, The Sisters of Mercy, Depeche Mode, She Wants Revenge, Bauhaus, Gary Numan, The Church, David Bowie and more.

Don't expect many surprises, just a great night of dancing with your friends, great music and round after round of drinks at South Florida's best new nightlife destination, Purgatory.

Doors 10pm-3am. This is an 18+ event with full alcohol (you have to be 21+ to drink of course!) and while there is no dress code, we ask that you dress to impress! If you like good music and club nights but could never cut the dress code at the fetish parties, this is a good event for you to check out.

Purgatory (formerly The Saint) is located in Fort Lauderdale just east of I-95 on State Road 84 and is pretty well central to all of South Florida. The address is 1000 W. SR-84 (SR-84 is also known as Marina Mile). This is a destination club with tons of free parking on the premises.
